The Volkswagen Golf R is the ultimate variant of the legendary Volkswagen hatchback. This is the sixth generation of the model and replaced the Mk.5 R32. Introduced in the late 2000s, this model was the first R to incorporate a turbocharged 4-cylinder, a departure from the R32 VR6 engine.
The EA113 two-liter turbo that powers this car was rated at a factory 256 horsepower. This example still retains its factory turbo, intake, and exhaust. The only modification to the powertrain is an adjustable APR plug-and-play tune for 91 & 93 octanes. The engine runs well, does not appear to smoke, throws no warning lights, and revs strong and smooth throughout the power band.
Power is sent through a 6-speed manual transmission. A new shift kit was recently installed (still retaining the original shift knob) to fix the slop in the mechanism. The clutch feels responsive and does not seem to slip.
The Mark 6 Golf R used a variant of the Haldex all-wheel-drive system. From new, the Golf R was said to do 0-60 miles per hour in under 6 seconds. The AWD system seems to function as new and does not throw any errors or fault codes.
TFL purchased this vehicle from the original owner, who bought it new. Cosmetically this Volkswagen is in decent shape. There is a curb rash on both sides of the front bumper. The wheels are stained in places and are curbed in several areas. The paint shows well but does display several light scratches. Deeper scratches are present on the rear bumper, where the previous owner says a driver backed into it at slow speed.
There is minor hail damage on the body.
The interior of this VW presents exceptionally well. The bolstered bucket seats have no tears, rips, or significant stains. The headliner, dash, and door panels are in very good shape. The original floor mats have been replaced with Weathertech floor liners. There are no weird smells or odors.
The gauges, dash, and all lights function as new. The factory radio and the head unit operate as they should. Heat and A/C work well.
