This Suburban is an eighth generation model known internally as the GMT400. Introduced in 1991, the GMT400 Suburban brought independent front suspension and improved fuel injected V8s to the lineup. In 1994 the small block V8 was updated again with the introduction of the L31 Vortec. This GMC is powered by that improved 5.7L making a claimed 255 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque when new. Although mechanically similar to the Chevy, this GMC Suburban did feature various interior and exterior styling differences. This SLT model was remarkably luxurious for its time featuring leather upholstery, power seats, heated seats, push button (and automatic) four wheel drive, power locks, mirrors, AM/FM/Cassette, and cruise control. Known for their longevity, towing capacity, and overall durability the GMT400 era of trucks are a great entry into the classic 4×4 world.
This Suburban 1500 has an indicated 211,000 miles and is sold with an unknown service history. The engine seems to run strong and starts the first time. It has never overheated or left us stranded during our ownership. The transfer case does show signs of leaking. The 4L60 4-speed automatic transmission shifts well and features an overdrive off feature. Brakes were recently done and show plenty of life. The parking brake was fixed under our ownership and the ABS functions as well. Push button four wheel drive activates all modes including 4wd Low. The lights on the 4×4 buttons turn on and off intermittently but four-wheel-drive always seems to engage regardless. All gauges function as they should and no warning lights are present on the dashboard.
Several modifications were made to the vehicle for the video series. The Suburban features brand new, slightly oversized BFG K02 tires (including the spare) mounted on the original wheels. There are also several cosmetic modifications including stick-on stripes, recovery rope, and a winch for looks only (editor’s note: this winch was added for a gag in the series, it is far too undersized and bolted directly to the license plate frame. It is included in the sale but obviously non functional). The cab lights on the roof are visual only too and do not function. All modifications have been made to be easily reversible.
The interior carpet is stained in many places and there are tears in the leather upholstery (primarily the driver seat). The interior hood release has broken from its hinge. The doors have sagged on their hinges and take a slam to close. The dashboard and steering wheel are in good shape with few cracks or wear. The driver side heated seat is non functional, the power adjustment works as it should. While the heat and blower fan work well, the airconditioning is inoperable. All exterior lights appear to work as they should.
Rust is present above the windshield in several spots. The frame, floors, quarter panels, & fenders appear to be rust free. There is a dent in the rear driver side door. A clear bra on the front of the vehicle is peeling in several areas.
This Suburban is being sold with a clean Colorado title and two sets of keys. It is being sold “as-is” with no warranties or guarantees.
